I love to periodically refresh my home, I get bored with my decor or furniture placement, or have a new idea I want to implement. Unfortunately, spare time and lots of extra dinero is not a luxury I have. So, over the past couple of years, I have found I tend to consistently focus on five simple areas to achieve a quick and rewarding room refresh. Focusing on these five simple areas tend to cost little or no money, but also can be done quickly for almost instant gratification! The five simple areas are greenery, window treatments, artwork/photographs, textiles, and furniture. Focus on all five areas at a time or mix and match, get creative!
Greenery/Flowers
Greenery and/or flowers are a must have in my home. They add so much texture, serenity, and interest to a space. Not to mention, they help clean the air of the “yuckies.” My philosophy when it comes to plants is “the more the merrier”!
Ways to implement:
- Add a vase of fresh flowers or greenery of whatever is in season at the time
- Add a hanging plant(s)or large potted palm(s)
- Swap plants among rooms

Window Treatments
Love em’ or hate em’. I personally am not a fan of heavy overbearing draperies. I prefer beautiful window trim with inset blinds or simple understated shutters. But hey to each his own!
Ways to implement:
- Add curtains, draperies, or wooden blinds if you do not have any.
- Change out your existing for a different pattern, color, or fabric.
- Add DIY shutters or purchase new
- Add fabric valance
- Add decorative banner of fabric strips, pompoms, or greenery.

Artwork/photographs
Artwork and photograpshs are a great way to add a personal touch to your home. I love displaying my daughter’s artwork as well as my own and changing out family photos of cherished memories.
Ways to implement:
- Swap artwork among rooms
- Add new artwork
- Add personal photographs of family, pets,or travels.
- Pick one or two key areas to change with the seasons. For example, one large piece of art/photograph over a sofa that can be switched with a spring, summer, fall, and winter piece.

Textiles
Yay! Textiles are my favorite! I love funky patterned pillows, soft fuzzy throws, and sturdy rugs. They add warmth, texture, and help absorb sound.
Ways to implement:
- Change out throw pillows and blankets as well as rugs.
- Swap textiles among rooms, hang a throw rug on the wall or on a decorative towel bar.
- Use brighter colors and light fabrics for spring and summer, and muted colors and heavier fabrics for fall/winter

Furniture
Furniture is key. Changing or rearranging the funiture makes the biggest impact on a room, out of these five steps. Don’t be afraid to place furniture in a room it wasn’t originally designed for. You can put a dresser in aliving room and yes, your dining room can boast a pair of comfy arm chairs. Mix it up baybay!
Ways to implement:
-
-
- Rearrange your existing furniture
- Swap furniture among rooms.
- Revamp existing with a fresh coat of paint, stain, or upholstery.
