Boho has always been my jam, from my clothes down to how I live my life. I love being carefree, adventurous, and spreading positive vibes. I have been told I have been born in the wrong era more times than I can count. And I am ok with that, I have no desire to be anything other than me.
Lately, boho seems to have gone mainstream and has become a way to describe a style. But it should be mentioned that boho is less about style and more of an attitude or way of life.
That being said, I unashamedly jumped on the “boho style” bandwagon, because it encompasses so much of who I am and what I love.
For those of you who love the boho style, but have no idea where to start, I am going to share ten simple ways you can instantly add some boho style to your home.
#1)Don’t Conform
Throw rules out the window. Remember boho free spirited and a way of life or attitude. Don’t get caught up in unnecessary rules and trends. Get creative, get funky, and do not conform!! Be YOU! It is so important to let YOUR personality show!
#2)Plants
Gotta have ‘em. Bonus points if they are hanging. Double bonus points if you use a macrame hanging planter. Plants are by far my favorite way to accessorize my home. I love the beauty and peace plants bring to a room, as well as the health benefits. It is proven that plants can lift your mood, purify your air, and help with allergies. Though you do have to be careful what types of plants you use, especially if you have kiddos ands pet.

Patterns
Patterns are a must! Think florals, global, geometric and mix those babies together! Refer to number one if you are getting anxiety about mixing patterns. Tie them together with a common element, easiest one being color. Remember, BE CREATIVE!

Wall Hangings
Let talk wall hangings. Wall hangings like tapestries and macrame add the perfect boho style to your home. But don’t limit yourself, remember, think outside the box. Have a rug you absolutely love? Hang it on the wall! Have a cool hand stitched quilt your grandma made. Show that beauty off…hang it on the wall! You can also pair your wall hangings with your family photos, favorite artwork, and basket walls.
Natural Elments
Incorporate natural elements like wood, crystals, metals, and natural fibers. Wood furniture, baskets (either hung on the wall, holding potted plants, or as extra storage),. Crystals, cool rocks found on your adventures, chunks of agate used as bookends, copper metals in light fixtures or decor all are ways to incorporate the natural elements of your boho world.

Color
You have to have color, in my humble opinion. It doesn’t have to look like someone puked the rainbow in your home, but use color somewhere. Color can be used in your throw pillows, area rugs, curtains, artwork, and accessories. I know I have been seeing alot of monochromatic “boho” rooms on Pinterest, white layered on creams, layered on more white. To me that is not true boho, I call that the Naturalista, a blend of Scandinavian and Bohemian. So if you looking for a true bohemian vibe, incorporate that color!

Preloved
You can’t be boho without a few preloved pieces, whether they be antique or thrifted. Visit your local thrift shop, your grandma’s attic, or a funky antique store. This is a great way to add character to your home. Pick pieces that speak to you or will be a conversation starter. Don’t think that only your furniture should be thrifted, decor like art and accessories can be thrifted as well. And just think, you are keeping discarded furniture and other items out of the landfills!

Texture
Add texture! Wool, velvet, and wicker are great places to start but don’t forget that plants, natural elements, and wall hangings are all contributing to texture. You will automatically be adding texture as you incorporate the other nine areas, but be conscious about the kinds of texture you are adding. Make sure you are not adding to much of one thing. For example don’t make EVERY pieces of furniture wicker, don’t use all wool pillows and wall hangings, or only use plants as decor. ( I know it’s tempting to only decorate with plants, but self control people, self control.)

Pillows
PILLOWS, PILLOWS, PILLOWS. Pillows on the floor, on the couch, in a basket, on the bed, you get the point. And PLEASE DO NOT karate chop the pillows

Global
Global accents like Moroccan lanterns, african engagement masks, suzanis, etc. You do not have to have a ton of global accents, but include at least two key pieces. Bonus points if you actually purchased the piece in your travels so you can tell a great story about how you acquired it!
