Let’s get serious for a moment and talk about investing in an interior designer . When you are remodeling or building your home, you are investing in your home. You are expecting to get a return from that home, whether it be monetary or simply joy. You want your home to give you shelter but also be a place of relaxation and a place to make memories with your family. You also want to know that should the time come to sell, you will get out of your home what you put into it, preferably with a little profit.
However, more often than not there is a piece of the of the puzzle that ultimately gets left out when construction begins. Specifically, in the planning stages. That missing piece is an experienced interior designer and there seems to be two main reasons as to why they are left out.
- Designers are expensive.
- They are a luxury not a necessity.
It saddens me that interior designers get the rap of being unobtainable or unneccessary to the average “Joe”. It seems that the general consensus concludes that Interior Designers are only for the extremely wealthy, “snob knob” portion of the population here on planet earth. We are expensive “know it alls” who aren’t actually a necessary component of your new build or remodel. Besides, Sally down the street once took a two week decorating course at the local community center, she can do it for half the cost.
But what really does “expensive” mean, it’s kind of relative don’t you think? I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for. So when someone say “oh that is so expensive” it means nothing to me. Tell me the reason why. Why am I expected to pay X amount of dollars for that product? What is the value? The quality? What problem does it solve for me?
For example, if I am looking for a house and I find one for half a million, initially that seems expensive. But if my realtor tells me it has 300 acres, an inground pool with pool house, a stable, a chefs kitchen the size of Jamaica and comes staffed with a housekeeper, groundskeeper, and chauffeur… suddenly expensive isn’t so expensive.
If we use that same scenario but apply it to a house in need of a complete remodel, two acres, a kitchen the size of a postage stamp, and neighbors that collect trash and rodents for a living, then that half of million seems WAYYY too expensive. Get what I am saying?!
So when I say hiring an interior designer will be your best investment, hear me out. We bring so much to the table that our worth far outweighs our design fees. Here are five reasons hiring an interior designer will be the best investment EVER. SERIOUSLY.
MONEY
The best thing about interior designers is that we help you AVOID and PREVENT costly mistakes. We are trained to look for and address issues that could escalate into major and expensive problems.
We are budget conscious. Nothing is better than being given the challenge of a budget, in my humble opinion. We will know not to offer you champagne on a beer budget. Or beer on a champagne budget. We also have the added advantage of knowing the general costs of materials and furnishings that you will need to make your dream home a reality. We will be able to tell you if your budget is realistic for what you envision and then guide you in the right direction.
TIME
We will save you hours upon hours of searching for the best deals, products, sizes, and finishes needed because we already know where to shop to stay within your budget and get you what you need.
MANAGEMENT
We keep everyone on the same page. Designers help to streamline your process, we help keep everyone, meaning your electrician, plumber, contractor, architect, best friend, your dog, and your nosy neighbor all on the same page. By making sure everyone is informed about our area of expertise, they can make sure their areas of expertise jive with ours and vise versa. This helps keep your timeline on track and prevent mistakes or oversights. Your project will run like a well- oiled machine.
CONNECTIONS
We are connected. We have a vetted network of trade professionals to help us make your dream come true. If we don’t know the answer to your questions or problems, we sure know who to call. We also have lists of awesome resources, to make your space one of a kind. Need a plumber, electrician, a contractor, a therapist, a massage? WE got you covered!
GUIDANCE
We know how to bring out your awesomeness. We know how to ask the right questions to bring out all your wonderful ideas, even those you didn’t know you had. We can help you create that “wow factor” you are aiming for with ease and efficiency. No more hair pulling or aimless hours staring at inspiration pictures wondering how in the world you are ever going to get what you want. We bring fresh ideas and unbiased opinions to the table. We know you don’t want your living room to look like aunt Sophie’s or Chuck’s down the street, and believe me, it won’t. We will not rest until your space looks like YOUR dreams come true and Aunt Sophie and Chuck are green with envy.
So, before you join the ranks of IDHA (Interior Designer Haters Anonymous), schedule a design consult. Get to know a designer and keep these five reasons to hire an interior designer in the back of your mind as you begin your design journey. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
